Fish Head Beehoon Soup @ Bukit Padang
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized

This has always been one of my all time favourite eateries to go to on a weekend. I just LOVE fish head beehoon soup!

This stall is located on the food stall beside the Church of Mary Immaculate in Bukit Padang, and across the road from the Bukit Padang Hospital.
It’s been here for a long time now, I heard, and business is still going strong.

It’s no wonder too, as their fish head beehoon soup is really delicious! I love their freshly fried fish in the soup too! Can’t get enough of it! (price: regular RM5, Large RM7.50)
Rating from me: 5/5! Yes, it’s that good! And worth every penny!

As usual, WC would go for kon lo mee, so his fish soup is clear version. Plain, IMO, but if you don’t want any fats in your food, I guess this is good enough.. and according to him, it tasted delicious nonetheless! (price: RM5 but correct me if I’m wrong)
Do you guy still eat at this stall?

Fish Maw Soup, my favourite soup!
The soup has a lot of stuff inside: generous amount of fish maw, mushroom, tofu, egg, carrots, and lettuce. Yummy! 4/5!
We also ordered 1 kilo of crabs (RM30/kg) and had them cook it into 2 different styles..
This BIG meal for 2 (plus 4 glasses of Chinese Teh Ping) cost us RM90.40.
Will keep this restaurant in mind when I need to bring my family out for dinner the next time around!

My Bad Experience @ Kedai Kopi Daily (2)
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized

Did you guys know that there is a Kedai Kopi Daily (2) in Jalan Gaya? Not only in Foh Sang guys! It’s also 24 hours, and is a WiFi Zone too! AND they serve no pork! AND their menu is extensive!
Before I go on with the bad service, let me show you guys what we ordered:

My chicken mee soup. (price: RM5)
Looks good, right? But trust me, this was bad. Oil in the soup was about an inch thick (I could see it in my bowl!), so I was only drinking oil instead of soup! Urgh! Also, despite of me asking only chicken, they also added some fish cakes inside? Okayyy…
I seriously wonder why they wanna put oil in the soup (they added it in the middle of the dish); it totally ruined it. Sans the oil though, the dish would’ve still be okay. Oh wait. The chicken tasted too much of the steel of the knife (that they used to cut it with is my guess). I just couldn’t even eat half of my food.
0/5 for this dish! Luckily it was only RM5..

This is what WC had: Chicken Paprik Fried Rice. (price: RM7.50)
Well, he asked for chicken, but once again, they also gave him seafood as well. Weird. Don’t the cook even read the orders? And, I thought Nasi Paprik is supposed to be cooked with Tomato Sauce? None for this dish, though..
But according to WC, he said this dish is delicious. Portion was a lot too! 3/5 from him. I loved the veggies.. hehe..

We also ordered this dish: Seafood Sweet & Sour dish. (price: RM7.50)
Now this dish is delicious! Worth to order the next time! Portion is just right for 2 pax too!
But okayyy… now to my bad service I had here. One of the girl first took WC’s order as I was still trying to decide what I can eat that won’t upset my tummy. So when my turn came, I was still browsing their menu, as like I’ve said before, their menu is quite extensive. After just like 5 seconds of waiting for me, the girl then started to tap her fingers on the table! A sign to tell me to hurry up! WTF! A person should never, ever do that when taking your orders, no matter how slow you are! And only for 5 seconds?? So I saw the most bland dish on the menu, which is the above mee soup, and just quickly ordered that. Sheesh.. Even WC was pissed about that.
So the point of this post: no matter if you have a restaurant or just a coffee shop, NEVER EVER TAP YOUR FINGERS ON THE TABLE TO HURRY UP THE CUSTOMERS WITH THEIR ORDERS! That is just a plain NO-NO! I mean.. wtf, right??
Sigh.. but despite the oily dish I had, I am still willing to come back there for the next time to try out their other menu. They have an extensive menu there (as I’ve mentioned before)! Just like in restaurants!
I just hope that we get a different waiter/waitress the next time around!

Tuaran Mee & Soto @ Kedai Kopi Sin Fatt Hing
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
Whenever I crave for soto, this is the coffeeshop that I would always go to, ever since I was in high school: the Kedai Kopi Sin Fatt Hing.

Even though it’s a chinese coffeeshop, there is a Muslim soto stall inside the shop itself, that sells, rojak and soto (chicken or beef). It is halal because if you are eating from this stall, you will be given the stall’s own set of fork and spoon, as well as their soy sauce, etc.
You can see Muslim people do come and eat here as well. It’s like a mini food court right inside a coffeeshop itself!

Soto Daging (meat soto)
I personally always order the “Soto Daging” (meat soto) whenever I come here, as I prefer the meat taste as compared to the chicken in my soto.
But if you don’t feel like eating soto (or rojak) AND if you are non-Muslim, you can always opt for the coffeeshop’s own dishes, like one of their signature dish, the Tuaran Mee.

Yummy Tuaran Mee
Whenever I have a craving for Tuaran mee, I would always get it from this coffeeshop as well. That’s because these 2 dishes (as well as their wat tan ho) have grown on me ever since I was in All Saints high school, which is located right in front of this coffeeshop!
** I’m gonna tag this post as a halal AND serve no pork, as both are applicable **

Dinner @ Yu Hing
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
I’m sure a lot of you know where Yu Hing is right? If you don’t, it’s located at Hilltop.
I try to avoid this place, as I’ve heard that it’s quite expensive, but some friends wanted to eat there last night, and so I just joined them for the experience.

The shop
They serve home cooked dishes here, and there are a few signature dishes, but we didn’t have any. What we did have though were these:

Char Siu Omelette

Veggies with Meat

Ham Choy Soup

And Sweet & Sour Fish, with the Tomato Sauce. We were told that there were 2 versions of this dish: 1, with a clear sauce, and 2, with Tomato Sauce. Interesting, huh? Wonder what the clear sauce version tastes like..
And yes, they all were delicious!
All these dishes cost us around RM60++ (for 3 pax).. so you be the judge on whether it’s expensive or not..
But no doubt, the dishes sure are yummy..

Wedding Lunch @ Royal China, D’Junction
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
I’ve never been to a function at Royal China the restaurant, located at D’Junction before, so I’m glad I got to attend a friend of mine’s wedding lunch there at the private rooms.

The sign right outside the entrance to the restaurant, and the wedding couple

The table setting
The BF is seriously considering to have our future wedding reception here at the restaurant, because the food here is very delicious! One of the best wedding food we’ve ever tasted!

The food that we had. Can’t properly see the pics of the food? No problem!
I’ve also posted a bigger size of each pics for you to see it closer!

Right after we arrived, we were served these Ferrero Rocher.. how cute is that?

This is the first dish from the restaurant: The Special 5 Hot & Cold Combo

This is the Braised Shark’s Fin Soup (with Dried Scallop & Crab Meat)

Next up was the BBQ Roasted “Pei Pa” Chicken

Then the Steamed Pomfret with Superior Soy Sauce arrived

Then the Special Baked Tiger Prawns (with Chicken Floss)

And the Braised Mushrooms with Clams, Abalone and Gluten

Served together with this HUGE Lo Mai Kai (Fried Glutinous Rice with 8 Treasures.. is what it’s called. Ooh!)

And for desserts, we had this: Chilled Honeydew with Sago

And also this dish called Sweet Fancy Duets. Not sure what these tastes like though.. I didn’t have any
I seriously loved all the food served! 2 Thumbs up!!
If you would like to have a function done, you should really consider to have it at Royal China! Yummy!

Chinese Breakfast @ Shikai Restaurant
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
This is a long overdue post, but hey, better late than never, right?
Anyway, the BF brought me along with some friends to have breakfast at Shikai Restaurant sometime back. This restaurant’s located at Asia City Complex. It’s hard not to miss because of its oriental decor.

The entrance

The inside decor

The dim sum here is quite delicious; you shouldn’t miss this!

You should also try their roast duck rice. The BF said it’s one of their specialties? He would order these whenever he eats here!
I can’t seem to find the receipt for this restaurant anymore, so I’m afraid I can’t put the price up. But it’s quite reasonable.
And we found out that there is also a Shikai Restaurant branch in Gadong Brunei as well! Cool! You can read sis’s review on the Gadong restaurant on her food blog here!

Lunch @ Restoran Rasa Nyonya
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
Had lunch with a couple of friends here recently at Restoran Rasa Nyonya. It is located on the same row as Tong Hing KK branch. This place has been around for quite some time now; I remember coming here when I was in college time, around 7 years ago. I think it’s been here much longer than that though..
Anyway, we all tried their lunch sets, quite reasonable, under RM10.
Pics!

The entrance to the restaurant

The inside

This what we had, sweet and sour fish, japanese tofu with seafood, and ginger beef. Surprisingly, they’re all very delicious!

Parking in that area during the daytime is a bit of a problem though, but even so, you should try their lunch set at least once! I haven’t tried their dinner menu in quite a while too; maybe I’ll try it one of these days. Have you tried it recently? Care to share your experience?

Dinner @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan, Tg. Aru
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
BF and I had actually wanted to go to the Ramadhan bazaar in Tanjung Aru this evening, but as usual, in the evening, we got stuck in the traffic jam. So by the time we reached Tanjung Aru, it was already 6.30pm and most of the stalls had finished selling their food!
So since we were there, BF asked me to just eat at the simple Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (facing the main highway). I didn’t mind as this is one of my favourite coffee shop here in KK!
Why do you ask? Well, this is because even though the decor and everything else is simple, the taste of the food says otherwise! They are super excellent!

What the coffee shop looks like
We ordered deep-fried squid and grilled fish, pictured below. Delicious! Beats a lot of the other restaurants in KK already!

We also ordered Ham Choy soup, and a plate of fried eggs.

When all the food came, then only we realised that we ordered a tad bit much for just the two of us! LOL!
Surprisingly, this coffee shop also automatically serves you desserts! Just like in restaurants!

So if you’re in Tanjung Aru, and would like to eat good food with a simple environment, then Kedai Kopi Wah Juan is the place to go!
