Japanese Fine Dining @ Umai

After receiving a few comments that I should do a food review at the new Japanese restaurant in town called Umai, I finally had the chance to eat there this afternoon.

This one-month-old fine dining restaurant is located at the D’Junction building, on the first floor..

The decor inside..

What you can find on your table
Okay, on to the food pics! We were surprised by the long list of menus, that it took us quite a long time to decide what to have! But we asked for some recommendations and they are:

Our appetizer, the Maguro Karpacho, which is basically red tuna..
Then for our side dish, we ordered:

California Temaki..

andSpider Maki.
And for our main dish, the BF ordered this:

5 Type Sushi Set
According to him, the sushi were easy to eat and easy to take using the chopsticks. He said overall, this is a well balanced sushi set with a lot of side dish. Presentation once again was very good, and it tasted delicious as well.

Beef Shogayaki Set
As for me, I ordered the Beef Shogayaki Set, and even though it took the longest time of all to arrive (all the other food had arrived much earlier), it was worth the wait. The beef were tender and delicious. And like the BF’s order, my set lunch included a lot of side dish as well. Loved the steamed egg. Delicious!

And for dessert, we were recommended to try the mango pudding. Unlike ordinary pudding, which is soft and jellylike, this pudding tasted the opposite. No jelly taste at all. It’s practically real mango, and this is due to the large amount of real mango used in making the pudding. But it’s really worth a try, especially if you love mango. Delicious!
Can you all believe only the two of us ate that much for lunch? Crazy, I tell you! And the total bill came up to more than RM100, but hey, it’s not everyday we get to eat at a fine dining restaurant. But then again, the prices of the food there are quite reasonable, and we love the food presentation! Excellent experience all around!
So we’ll definitely be back again at this restaurant! And if you love Japanese food as well, and love eating at a calm and nice ambience, the Umai is definitely the place to go.

Yummy Steak @ JJ Western Food

One of my favourite places to eat steak is definitely at JJ Western Food in Damai.

Not only do the food taste delicious (especially with the mushroom sauce), the price is quite reasonable as well.

I had quite a lot of food to eat during tea-time, so by dinnertime, I wasn’t that hungry. So I just ordered the Junior set, the Chicken steak, with the mushroom sauce..

The BF ordered the lambchop, with the mushroom sauce as well. Like me, he really loves the mushroom sauce, too.

My brother came along with us, and he ordered the beef steak, with black pepper sauce. According to him, it was delicious too.
So if you’re in Damai, and would like to have some steak for dinner, then you should definitely eat at JJ Western Food.

Wagamama @ Grace Point

Finally got to try out the food, especially the burger over at Wagamama Japanese Restaurant at Grace Point. Found out that the menu in this branch is different as compared to its other branches here in Kota Kinabalu: the specialty here are the burgers, which are not served in the other branches.

As usual, when in a Japanese restaurant, ordering Salmon and the Ebiko sushi is a must for me..

Tempura Udon & Salmon Burger
That night, I went there with my brother, and my BF. Both of them ordered burgers, so I wanted to try one of the burgers as well, but turned out that the burger buns ran out, so I had to order something else. In the end, I just ordered Tempura Udon.
Eating Japanese food at this branch is certainly something different, as it is outside in a food court and right beside the road, so it is perfect for those who would like to grab a bite, they could just park on the side of the road, and order a burger take-away!
So if you would like to eat Japanese food in a slightly different environment, then Wagamama Japanese Restaurant @ Grace Point is the place to go.
