What Sambal Tuhau Looks Like
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized

Remember I blogged about planting tuhau in Kg. Patau sometime back?
Well, this is what it looks like when done in a sambal.
Some people (like my family) just love this delicacy, but I know quite a few people that just can’t stand the taste of it.
And yes, this is a kampung dish.. simple but yummy!

Buffet Dinner @ Beijing
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
No, not Beijing in China. I’m talking about the Beijing Open-Air Buffet BBQ Steamboat restaurant in Kampung Nelayan, located in Tun Fuad Park in Bukit Padang.
Here’s the main sign of the area..

Here’s the sign for the main restauant..

Here’s the main entrance of the restaurant..

Inside the main restaurant, there’s another sign for Beijing..

You hafta walk a slight distance into the Beijing eatery..

Here’s what Beijing look like inside. And yes, it is open-air (in case you forgot).
Now let’s take a look at the food! They have quite a good selection for the buffet..

So this is what we took.. not for the whole meal, but only for the first round! We had 3-4 rounds of food taking for the whole meal. We would’ve gotten more, except that BF kept on getting interrupted by his client who was also there and wanted to talk and talk and talk and not notice us busy eating! Sheesh..

But we did took several of the ice-creams! If you guys come here for your next meal, remember to take the chocolate ice-cream ya! They’re the best ones there!

Claypot Rice @ Truly Asia Foodhall, KAC
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
If you still don’t know, Asia City Complex (KAC)’s food court is now opened. It’s called Truly Asia Foodhall.

This is how the foodhall looks like; it’s got cute looking chairs and black ceiling. And notice the other stalls still being empty? That’s how new it is..

This is the particular stall that sells the yummy claypot rice. It doesn’t have a name yet, but once you enter the food court, it’s located on the right hand side.
This is BF’s favourite: claypot rice with chicken, a sprinkle of salted fish and egg on top.

His meal include this herbal soup. I really forgot the name of this soup lah OMG! LOL.. But according to him, it’s really good. Very delicious.

This is my meal; claypot rice with chicken and vegetables on top. This is the only claypot meal they have that serves veggies in it, and since I’m a veggie lover, I chose this! It’s really yummy as well, and has chicken, a sprinkle of salted fish, and of course, veggies!
My meal came with this peanut and lotus shoot herbal soup. Very delicious! We’ve actually been here several times already, and I still choose this over the other soups!

Each meal costs RM6.50, inclusive of the generous amout of herbal soup. Very good bargain! Try it out for yourself!
* This stall serves no pork *

Ma Baker’s Cafe
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized

If you are craving for a chicken or lamb shop in the middle of the afternoon, then you should definitely drop by at Ma Baker’s Cafe.
I love the ambience of this cafe; it feels like you’re in your kitchen or something! Plus, it’s air-conditioned!
We arrived there nearly at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, so maybe that would explain the lack of customers inside..

BF and my bro ordered lamb chop each. Mushroom sauce was given on the side, and I personally prefer this, as the plate doesn’t get too messy.
The meat of the lamb is super tender! And tasted just right! And goes exceptionally well with the mushroom sauce!
Price: RM8.90.
Rating: 5/5, mainly because it is a bargain at its cheap price and yet, very delicious (and tender) food!

This is mine: Chicken chop, also with mushroom sauce (along with the usual french fries and salad on the side).
My chicken meat was also VERY tender, and the taste blended very well with the mushroom sauce!
Price: RM8.90.
Rating: 5/5 (same reason as above, no joke!)

Even though we were full from our meals, we also ordered their chocolate cake for dessert! It was VERY delicious and rich in chocolates!
Price: RM5.90.
Rating: 4/5 Just because I think the price is slightly high for me. But the taste of the cake will make you forget all about the price, and I think I will order this again the next time I’m here!

Drop on over to Ma Baker’s Cafe for their variety of food choices. And especially try their chocolate cake! You won’t regret it!
Ma Baker’s Cafe is located nearby Merdeka Supermarket in Lido.

Restoran Rasa Penang
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
After reading an article in a local tourism magazine recently about a restaurant/coffeeshop that is located in Alam Mesra, I felt like trying it out myself as I’d never been to the area.
Where is it located? It’s at a new shoplots called Alam Mesra at Jalan Sulaman (opposite of the 1 Borneo Mall site), and the name of the restaurant is called Restoran Rasa Penang.
BF and I just love Penang food and we were excited to try the place out!

We had high expectations of this place as we were told that the owner and chef are originally from Penang itself, and the prices of the food are cheap.
(This is how it looks inside the shop..)

But the first thing we noticed was the slowness of the workers there. Our orders were only taken about 5 minutes after we actually sat down.
The waiter moved so slow.. as if he has no energy to move or something!
And he got my drink order wrong.. he sent me a 100 plus when I actually ordered an ABC..

The ABC was yummy, by the way. Price: RM2.50.
My food then arrived not long after I got my ABC. I had ordered the Penang Assam Laksa. It was delicious! Price: RM4.00.

Then BF’s order arrived, but the waiter got it wrong again. BF ordered the Penang Prawn Mee, but Penang Char Kueh Teow arrived instead. When BF informed it wasn’t his order, the waiter didn’t even bother to say sorry or anything at all; he just kept mute. Very irritating.
About 5 minutes later, his Prawn Mee finally came. But he was disappointed because it was tasteless. Price: RM4.00.

We had also ordered some side dishes like the Chicken Lobak (for BF, he eats meat on Fridays, but not me), and some prawn fritters. We also actually wanted to get the fried tofu, but was informed that they no longer serve that. Reason given: Tofu gets rotten easily. Err okay..
Price of Chicken Lobak: RM2.00. Taste is only so-so, needs to be improved.
Price of Prawn Fritters: RM0.80 each. Now this is very yummy! Reminds me of the prawn fritters in Brunei that Lumutlad brought us to eat! Will have more of this next time!

So overall, we did not have a good experience eating here as the service was much too slow. Also, we noticed that there were quite a lot of orders that got mixed up.. Not a good sign.
But then again, BF and I will surely give this place a try again, as we love Penang food and wanted to try their Penang Curry Mee and their original Fried Kueh Teow. I think we’ll give them one month to improve their service before we go there again..
Come on Restoran Rasa Penang! We know you can improve your service better!

Hana Japanese Restaurant
Posted by JACQ | Filed under Uncategorized
OMG, I love the ambience of this restaurant! Very classy looking!
Yup, I’m talking about Hana Japanese Restaurant, which is located in Kingfisher, here in Kota Kinabalu.
This is the outside sign..

This is how the restaurant looks like from outside..

This is the inside.

I actually wanted to sit here, but nope..

BF wanted to sit near the train and grab what good food that comes out!

So as usual, we ordered our main dishes, then we checked out the dishes on the train. Since we’ve oredered a lot for our main dishes, I just took these from the train..
But I forgot I also got the Ebiko on my main dish.. ooops.

This is the main dish. It’s actually a kids meal (complete with Vitagen!) The waitress suggested I take another dish but I said nope, I wanted to try this! So I did!
I wonder how can this be a kids meal when there’s so much food to eat! Even I myself had a hard time finishing it!

They also have cute sushi set up on my plate.

This is BF’s food:

The fried chicken and the salmon head were delicious!
We also had this..

Kinda reminds me of Excapade in Brunei; the thickness of the salmon and the decoration, but NOT the quantity!
Parents, please remind your kids of this warning:

But the highlight of the restaurant was this!

Beautiful and long aquarium!
And should you want to hold a private function here, you can opt for the private room that looks like this:

I am SO gonna have my birthday there next year!!
Contact info on Hana..
Update: Hana is now located at City Mall!
